ok it's fall....it's fall....it's falll
Warm. woolies, textures, subtle hues and jewel colors- not nearly adequate in describing the garments hanging in the shop. Such a group of luxurious goods at a real range of prices(my credo) . There is something for everyone!!! First seen: Butapana , the master of the knit, next: Corey&Co. creations under new french berets, then: Miillla sweater tunic over Dagg& Stacey dress, and finally, a load of bundled wool waiting for me to turn it into something.

then and now
Greetings from the lazy blogger. Summer is just slip, slidin' away. Although the designing, sewing and shop-keeping goes on, other fun home projects have stolen some of the time reserved for blogging and other communication. Daughter Anna and I have been turning the garden shed into a summer-visitor nest....photos to follow... oops, forgot to take the 'before' pics. These dresses are twins separated by decades. The striped one I found in my sister's attic years ago. It is dated 1966. The green one came off my sewing machine yesterday. Both: Marimekko fabric, front zip, side pockets. I would love it if they would bring back that striped fabric!

more fun with marimekko
I have been making summer 'frocks' using Marimekko yardage. The prints are bold and have plenty of personality of their own, so I keep it simple, maybe changing up the neckline or sleeve. Basic shapes seem the best way to let the prints sing. The bottom photo shows a striped ARCHERIE dress hanging in the foreground.

muse
Fact: I hate special orders. I say I don't do them, but truth is: sometimes I do. ........woman comes into the shop. 'has a request. i say o.k. 'cause she is a wonderful one, in all ways. Days follow and I do what I do : over-think, obsess. But then, something happened: because of the person involved, I began to think of her more as a muse ! Garment followed garment. It began to be fun ! and she loved them.

dots, stripes, architecture
I'm stuck on blotchy dots and stripes. First: pocket peek-a-boos.They give a little depth and fun to a garment. Then we have some 3 dimensional dots and stripes in the form of wooden and resin jewelry by ELK, Australia. Finally, my bleach-dyed tee shirts with their dots and stripes drying in the sun.

ett hem
sometimes it's the things that surround you at home that help you create. i prefer home design magazines to fashion rags...sometimes you catch a glimpse of a quirky painting or piece of sculpture in a photo and that's worth the cover price. you make a nest, and i guess you take your succor from it. here are some photos of my 'hem' ( swedish for home).

new york in february, round 2
Aside from making the rounds of shows for Market Week and spending bucket-loads of money for next fall/winter, I had one additional mission: pick up some soft, supple leather for jacket-making. Just a little, since I was still in experimental-mode. 'Bought these at Paron Fabrics on 39th. 'Took 'em home, sewed 'em up. A change of fabric is a good way to stay interested in making things for me...this leather was like sculpting-add a panel, leave a natural edge, build a piece. The last photo: cute old gent sighting during Eataly wine-break.
