studio sale X 3

It's an unusual Saturday and Sunday at COREY&CO. Three Portland painters cleaning out studios and selling at remarkably reduced prices. Lynn Krauss, Ronnie Wilson and Barbara Corey (me) have turned the shop into a pop-up gallery. We have been crazy-busy with people wanting artwork and deals. Take a look.

back from new york

Looking for new makers and new garments: definitely fun. So is going out after a long day to drink wine, eat moules frites,  and look up at the paintings in the night sky.

back detail

I am working with cottons and linens these days. 'Not sure why, but it always seems like more fun to create detail on the back of a garment- the element of surprise, I guess. Here are some pieces from the week's work.

aged aunts

Isabel and Louise King. One was a weaver, one did handwork. I still own much of the furniture pictured here and many of their beautifully crafted fabric pieces.

melinda, where are you?

Melinda and I have been discussing a dress/ dress plus coat for an upcoming event. Ordinarily, I do not do requests- it makes me too nervous and caged-feeling. But, because Melinda is a very avant-garde dresser, I thought it might be fun.......and so,  I bought fabric. And then- Melinda went to D.C. for the weekend-the snow weekend. She is deep in snow. Here are some of the drawings for the 'project'.

the thrill of the hunt

I just returned from a few days in New York. I hunted for (and found) new things for the shop and my husband, a bookseller, searched for (and found) first editions. I included a fabric-dive at Mood -  3 floors of choice and a respite from the frigid winds of the city. It's always fun when the box of fabric arrives in Portland and I can start to plan its garment future. I am so lucky to have good people to mind the shop while I am briefly away and have them share in this adventure.
